MacaRich is a 4:1 concentrate made from hand-picked organic maca root that is harvested in a sustainable manner under fair trade practices in the Peruvian Andes. Using whole tubers, our maca is processed using a proprietary gelatinization process to deliver the highest purity and potency. Gelatinization removes the starch from the root to create an extract more potent, easier to digest, and more bioavailable than powdered root. Each capsule also contains 200 mg of Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng) to help balance the release of stress hormones by supporting hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenal glands. How it works
Although research is gradually revealing which active compounds are responsible for maca’s medicinal benefits, many of the underlying mechanisms are still unknown. Maca contains 60% carbohydrates, 10% protein, 8% dietary fibre, and 2% fat. It is rich in essential minerals, especially selenium, calcium, magnesium, and iron, as well as vitamins B1, B2, C, and E. Maca also contains healthy fatty acids and 19 amino acids. This strong nutritional profile, paired with its glucosinolate concentration, may help synchronize hormones and stimulate the production of antioxidants.
Maca’s ability to enhance libido and sexual function may also be due to its high concentration of proteins and nutrients, which are essential for healthy reproductive function. Research shows that these effects are not due to changes in blood hormone levels. Maca’s effects on stress, mood, energy, and endurance may stem from its support for the adrenal and thyroid glands. These effects are suspected to be linked with a compound called 1-methyltetrahydro-carboline-3-carboxylic acid (1R, 3S), a molecule that is reported to influence the central nervous system.
Ginsenosides are the active components of Korean ginseng and they have been shown to improve memory by protecting cells in the hippocampus, preventing neurotoxicity of microtubules in the central nervous system, and enhancing the function of neurotransmitters.
