Jack pine is the most common pine in Canada. It is a North American conifer found mostly in the eastern boreal forest. The First Nations used most of the parts of this plant essence for the preparation of remedies to treat respiratory problems and to heal cuts.
Jack pine essential oil mainly contains monoterpenes and esters. It is distinguished by a higher proportion of pinene and the presence of myrcene and limonene. The oil, obtained from the distillation of its needles and branches, offers a scent with fruity notes and fresh herbs.
The major component of this essential oil is α-pinene (monoterpene).
Suggested Use
The essential oil can be used in application on the thorax diluted at 20% in a vegetable oil to help decongestion of the respiratory tract. In a diffuser, it will be decongestant and expectorant while purifying the air.
