Suggested Use
Green tea (Camelia sinensis) is a superior antioxidant that has important medicinal value. It is rich in polyphenols, which show strong antioxidant properties. The major polyphenols in green tea are catechins, particularly epicatechin, epicatechin gallate, epigallocatechin 3-gallate, and proanthocyanidins. Of special interest is epigallocatechin-3-0-gallate (or EGCg), a polyphenol that makes up about 10–50% of the total catechin content and is the most powerful of the catechins, with antioxidant activity about 25–100 times more potent than vitamins C and E.
Research demonstrates that green tea helps guard against cardiovascular disease. Green tea lowers total cholesterol levels and improves the cholesterol profile (the ratio of LDL cholesterol to HDL cholesterol), reduces platelet aggregation, and lowers blood pressure. The polyphenols in green tea have also been shown to stimulate the production of several immune system cells, and have antibacterial properties, even against the bacteria that cause dental plaque.
HerbalFactors Green Tea Phytosome is a caffeine-free, standardized green tea extract that has undergone intensive toxicological and pharmacological scrutiny, demonstrating safety and verifying its high antioxidant activity. It is standardized to a very high polyphenol content (not less than 60%) with the most active polyphenol, EGCg, comprising at least 40% of the extract. The patented Phytosome process binds the green tea extract to phosphatidylcholine for rapid and effective absorption, increasing bioavailability.
